What Parents Should Know Before Buying
All FRP kids rides are for supervised outdoor use on private property. They are not street legal. Adult supervision is required at all times.
Helmet, gloves, and knee/elbow pads are required every ride. We recommend DOT-certified helmets and full riding gloves for any age rider.
All FRP kids bikes run 4-stroke engines. Fill up with regular unleaded and go — no oil mixing. Routine care is basic: air filter, oil change, chain tension every 10-20 riding hours.
FRP stocks OEM parts for all current kids models. If a component wears out or breaks, replace it without buying a new bike. Long-term ownership is built in from day one.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age and size is the MB40 designed for? +
The MB40 is designed for kids ages 6 and up, typically riders between 50-120 lbs and 3'6"-5'2" tall. It has a low seat height and manageable 18 mph top speed, making it a strong first gas bike for younger or smaller riders starting out on flat terrain.
Do FRP kids bikes require oil mixing? +
No. All FRP kids rides run 4-stroke engines. Fill up with regular unleaded gas (87+ octane) and go. No pre-mixing fuel and oil like older 2-stroke engines. This makes them much easier to maintain and more reliable for everyday use.
Can kids ride these on the street or sidewalk? +
No. FRP kids bikes are not street legal and are not designed for public roads, sidewalks, or bike paths. They are intended for private property use only — backyards, open lots, and private riding areas. Always check local regulations before riding.
What protective gear do kids need? +
At minimum: a properly fitted DOT-certified helmet, riding gloves, and knee/elbow pads. For dirt bike and ATV riding, we also recommend sturdy closed-toe boots and protective eyewear. Gear should fit snugly and be replaced as kids grow.
Are replacement parts easy to find for FRP kids bikes? +
Yes. FRP stocks OEM replacement parts for all current kids models including the MB40, FX40, DB003, and Sahara 40. You can order parts from the FRP Parts store. The FRP Answer Hub also has detailed guides for each model.
What gas dirt bike is right for a 7 or 8 year old? +
For ages 7–8, the MB40 mini bike is the right starting point. It has a low seat height, manageable 18 mph top speed, and upright seating that keeps younger riders in control. Best for flat ground, grass, and easy dirt — not rough trails. Most 7 and 8 year olds between 50–100 lbs fit the MB40 well. The DB003 50cc is also an option for ages 6–8 who want a traditional dirt bike frame.
What is a good gas dirt bike for a 10 year old? +
For a 10 year old ready for trails and rough terrain, the FX40 is the best fit. Full suspension, off-road tires, and a 40cc 4-stroke engine handle dirt paths and light off-road far better than a flat-ground mini bike. If your 10 year old is smaller or a first-time rider, start with the MB40 to build confidence before stepping up to the FX40.
Why choose a gas dirt bike over electric for kids? +
Electric kids bikes work well for driveways and short backyard sessions. Gas dirt bikes are built for real riding. A 4-stroke gas engine gives kids genuine throttle response, longer run time with a quick refuel instead of hours of charging, and a real off-road experience that electric motors cannot match at this price point. FRP gas bikes also come with OEM part support — when something wears out after years of riding, you replace the part, not the bike. For families who want a ride that grows with the kid and holds up to actual trail use, gas is the right choice.
