TL;DR
- SSR's current 125cc pit bikes are the SR125ME ($1,649 MSRP, 14/12 wheels, 129 lb, 30 in seat) and the SR125R ($1,899, 14/12 tires, oil cooler, 161 lb, 30.9 in seat). Both are 125cc four-strokes with a four-speed manual, kick and electric start, and disc brakes at both ends. MSRP is before destination and freight surcharge.
- SSR does not publish a top speed or a rider weight limit on these pages, and lists a 30-day parts-only warranty. The FRP FX125 publishes about 56 mph and 265 lb, and carries a one-year limited warranty.
- The SSR bikes win on weight, an oil cooler on the SR125R, inverted forks and a dealer network. The FX125 answers with a load rating, a longer warranty, a second build at 33.9 in and a starting price of $799.99.
- Best for: a rider who wants a light, race-styled pit bike from a dealer. Not right for: a heavier rider who needs a published limit, or anyone who wants more than 30 days of coverage.
SSR Motorsports is one of the best-known names in the pit-bike class, and "SSR 125" is what riders type when they mean the maker's 125cc pit bikes. SSR's current lineup lists the SR125ME, the SR125R and a big-wheel SR125RB. This review covers what SSR's own pages say for the first two, what they leave out, and where the FRP Moto FX125 fits.
SSR lists MSRP excluding destination charge, freight surcharge, setup, tax, title, license and dealer fees, so the price you pay depends on the dealer.

SSR figures from ssrmotorsports.com SR125ME and SR125R pages, checked September 28, 2026. SSR states its figures are subject to change without notice. FX125 figures from the FRP product page on the same date. Prices exclude tax, shipping or destination, and dealer fees, and can change.
How fast does an SSR SR125 go?
SSR does not print a top speed or a horsepower figure on the SR125ME or SR125R pages. What it lists is engine type, displacement, bore and stroke, and chassis numbers. Riders who want a number tend to find one in a video review, and those vary with gearing, rider weight and surface.
The FRP FX125 lists about 56 mph and 8.7 hp. The two bikes share a displacement class and a four-speed manual, so the practical difference is that FRP states the figure and SSR does not.
What is the SSR SR125 weight limit?
SSR does not publish a rider weight limit for the SR125ME or the SR125R. Seat height is the practical fit guide: 30 in and 30.9 in. The FX125 lists a 265 lb maximum load, and comes in a 28.1 in and a 33.9 in seat build.
Who should buy an SSR SR125?
An SSR SR125 is the right choice if:
- You want the lightest 125cc bike on the shelf. The SR125ME is listed at 129 lb.
- You want an oil cooler on the engine, which the SR125R has.
- You want inverted front forks as standard.
- You want a dealer to assemble, service and support the bike.
Who should NOT buy an SSR SR125?
An SSR SR125 is the wrong choice if:
- You need a rider weight rating in writing. SSR does not give one; the FX125's is 265 lb.
- You want more than 30 days of coverage. SSR lists a 30-day parts-only limited warranty; the FX125 carries a one-year limited warranty.
- You want the lowest starting price. SSR's MSRP is $1,649 or $1,899 before destination and freight, and the FX125 starts at $799.99.
- You want a 33.9 in seat build. The SR125R's is 30.9 in.
SSR SR125 vs FX125: the practical decision
The SSR's edge is weight, inverted forks, an oil cooler on the R and a dealer. The FX125 answers with a published load rating, a one-year warranty, a second build and a price that starts at $799.99. For a rider who wants a light, race-styled pit bike from a dealer, the SSR makes sense. For a rider who wants the rating and warranty in writing at a lower price, the FX125 covers more ground.
What are the SSR SR125's real strengths?
- Weight. The SR125ME is listed at 129 lb, about 21 lb lighter than the FX125's 14/12 build.
- Inverted forks and an oil cooler. Both models list inverted forks, and the SR125R adds an oil cooler.
- Disc brakes at both ends. The SR125R lists a 220 mm front and a 190 mm rear disc.
- A known name. SSR is one of the best-known pit-bike brands and sells through dealers.
What are the SSR SR125's main weaknesses?
- No published weight limit or top speed. You cannot check a heavier rider against a rating.
- A 30-day parts-only warranty. That is one month, and it covers parts only.
- Price plus fees. $1,649 or $1,899, then destination, a freight surcharge, setup and dealer fees.
- One seat height per model. The SR125ME is 30 in, the SR125R is 30.9 in, and the big-wheel SR125RB is a separate model.
Where does the FRP Moto FX125 give ground?
The FX125 has no dealer network, no inverted-fork or oil-cooler listing, and is about 21 lb heavier than the SR125ME in its 14/12 build. It is not sold in California, and it is EPA off-road only. For a smaller rider, the FX40 is the smaller FRP option, and for more power the FX140 is the step up.
Is the SSR SR125 the right buy?
What an SSR SR125 delivers is what SSR lists: a light 125cc pit bike with a four-speed, disc brakes, inverted forks and a dealer behind it. What it does not deliver is a published top speed, a weight rating, more than 30 days of parts coverage, or a price below $1,649.
For a rider who wants a light, dealer-supported pit bike, the SSR is a sound choice. For a rider who wants the rating and a one-year warranty at a lower starting price, the FX125 covers more ground. The FX125 product page has the specs for both builds, and the FRP dirt bike lineup shows the whole range.
What do FRP FX125 owners say?
The FX125 product page shows 5 reviews with a 4.4 average. Two of them:
- Britney H., verified buyer, 5 stars, September 12, 2026: “My 12 year old is loving this bike. Took no time for him to get the hang of the clutch and shifter. Very happy with my purchase!”
- Alessandro S., reviewer, 5 stars, August 10, 2026: “Supper fun will deffenetly be buying this one when i get the money”
The first review is the real-world answer to the manual-clutch question: a 12-year-old picked up the clutch and shifter quickly.
Reviews quoted as posted on the FRP FX125 product page, checked September 28, 2026.
What did a rider who bought the FX125 report in his own videos?
Darzrt bought an FX125 17/14 and posted a TikTok series about it from June to August 2026, plus the first-look video above. Here is what he said, in his own words or close to them:
- Unboxing: the bike came in a metal crate, with a bag holding a backpack, a water pack, goggles and gloves.
- First start: he changed the engine oil (about 0.6 quart), fueled it, and started it with the key and the electric start button. He pointed out the digital dash.
- Fit: at about 6 ft and 200 lb he said he was comfortable on it and called the frame beefy.
- Speed: on a later ride with a friend, including hill climbing, he said it did 52 mph with him on it at 195 lb. FRP lists about 56 mph.
- Using it: he entered the bike in a county fair pit bike race, changed the grips for it, and said he wanted to try the FX140 next.
As with any new bike, check the engine oil level before the first start and go over the bolts after assembly.
