Kawasaki KLX110R Review 2026: Specs, Top Speed, and How It Compares to the FRP FX125

Kawasaki's published KLX110R and KLX110R L specs, the two numbers Kawasaki leaves out (top speed and rider weight limit), and where the FRP FX125 fits.

TL;DR

  • Kawasaki KLX110R: 112cc air-cooled four-stroke, carburetor, electric start, drum brakes front and rear. The base model has an automatic clutch and a 26.8 in seat at $2,999. The KLX110R L has a manual clutch and a 28.7 in seat at $3,199. Both are 2026 base MSRP before destination and dealer fees.
  • Kawasaki does not publish a top speed or a rider weight limit for either model. The FRP FX125 publishes both: about 56 mph and 265 lb.
  • The KLX110R wins on its automatic-clutch option, a screw-type throttle limiter, and Kawasaki's dealer network. The FX125 answers with a manual clutch on every build, hydraulic discs at both ends, a published load rating, and a starting price of $799.99.
  • Best for: a younger or smaller rider who needs a 26.8 in seat and an automatic clutch. Not right for: a taller teen or an adult who needs a published limit, or anyone who wants disc brakes.

The Kawasaki KLX110R is the bike parents usually picture when they search for a "110 dirt bike" or a "KLX110 pit bike." It has been a fixture of the youth trail-bike class for years, it comes in two versions, and it is sold and serviced through Kawasaki dealers. This review covers what Kawasaki's own pages say each version delivers, what they leave out, and where the FRP Moto FX125 fits for the same rider.

Kawasaki lists the 2026 KLX110R at a $2,999 base MSRP and the KLX110R L at $3,199. Base MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title and dealer fees, and the dealer sets the actual retail price. The two numbers riders ask about most, top speed and rider weight limit, are not on the spec pages.

Kawasaki figures from kawasaki.com KLX110R, 2026 KLX110R and 2026 KLX110R L pages, checked September 28, 2026. Kawasaki's curb weight includes fluids and a full tank; dry weight does not. FX125 figures from the FRP product page on the same date. Prices exclude tax, shipping or destination, and dealer fees, and can change.

How fast does the Kawasaki KLX110R go?

Kawasaki does not print a top speed for the KLX110R or the KLX110R L. What the spec sheet does list is a screw-type throttle limiter on the grip housing, which is the tool a parent uses to cap the bike while a new rider learns. A published number would be a guess for a machine that is sold with a limiter and with a rider who is meant to grow into it.

The FRP FX125 publishes about 56 mph and 8.7 hp, which is a different bike from a 112cc pit bike. The 14/12 build shares the KLX110R's wheel sizes, but the 125cc engine and the four-speed manual make it more bike than a first-time child rider needs on day one. The FX125's product page does not list a throttle limiter, so a parent buying it for a younger rider should plan on supervision and a low-gear first month.

What is the Kawasaki KLX110R weight limit?

Kawasaki does not publish a rider weight limit. Its site describes the KLX110R as friendly for beginners and the ultimate pit bike for more experienced riders, and adds that it is for an experienced rider on a closed course under adult supervision. The KLX110R L's 28.7 in seat and 10.4 in ground clearance are aimed at taller riders.

The FX125 lists a 265 lb maximum rider load. That is a rating you can check a teenager or an adult against, and it is the biggest practical difference between the two spec sheets.

Who should buy the Kawasaki KLX110R?

The KLX110R is the right choice if:

  • The rider is small or new and needs the 26.8 in seat of the base model, which is lower than any FX125 build.
  • You want an automatic clutch so the first season is about steering and throttle, not stalling.
  • You want a Kawasaki dealer for service, and you have one nearby.
  • You want a screw-type throttle limiter on the grip housing to cap speed.

Who should NOT buy the Kawasaki KLX110R?

The KLX110R is the wrong choice if:

  • The rider is a taller teen or an adult. Kawasaki gives no weight rating, and the KLX110R L tops out at a 28.7 in seat.
  • You want disc brakes. Both versions use mechanical drums, front and rear.
  • You want to learn a manual clutch from day one on the base model. That needs the L, at $200 more.
  • You do not want to buy through a dealer. The MSRP is a starting point before destination and dealer fees.

KLX110R vs FX125: the practical decision

The KLX110R's edge is the automatic-clutch option, a lower seat, the throttle limiter and the dealer network. The FX125 answers with a manual clutch, hydraulic discs front and rear, a 265 lb published load rating, and a starting price of $799.99. For a small first-time rider, the Kawasaki fits better. For a rider who will grow, or a teen or adult who wants the rating in writing, the FX125 covers more ground.

What are the Kawasaki KLX110R's real strengths?

  1. An automatic-clutch option. The base KLX110R's four-speed automatic clutch takes stalling out of the first weeks. The FX125 has no automatic version.
  2. A lower seat. At 26.8 in the KLX110R sits under the FX125's 28.1 in, which matters for a short child.
  3. A throttle limiter. Kawasaki fits a screw-type limiter on the grip housing so a parent can cap power.
  4. A dealer network. Kawasaki dealers handle service, parts and resale in most regions.

What are the Kawasaki KLX110R's main weaknesses?

  1. Drum brakes at both ends. A 90 mm front drum and a 110 mm rear drum fade sooner and are harder to modulate than discs. The FX125 has hydraulic discs front and rear.
  2. No published weight limit or top speed. You cannot check a taller rider against a rating.
  3. Short suspension travel on the base model. 4.3 in front and rear is fine for a yard and soft ground, and it runs out early on rougher trail.
  4. Price and dealer-only purchase. $2,999 to $3,199 before destination and dealer fees, against $799.99 to $899.99 for the FX125 14/12 build.

Where does the FRP Moto FX125 give ground?

The FX125 has no dealer network, no automatic-clutch version, and no lower seat than 28.1 in. It is a 125cc bike with 8.7 hp, so it is a real step up in power from a 112cc pit bike, and it is not the right first bike for a small child. For a smaller or younger rider, the FX40 is the smaller FRP option. FRP also does not sell the FX125 in California, and it carries a one-year limited warranty.

Is the Kawasaki KLX110R the right buy?

What the KLX110R delivers is what Kawasaki lists: a 112cc four-stroke pit bike with an automatic-clutch option, a manual-clutch L version, drum brakes, and a dealer behind it. What it does not deliver is a published top speed, a weight rating, disc brakes, or a price below $2,999.

For a small first-time rider near a Kawasaki dealer, the KLX110R is a well-supported choice. For a rider who is growing, a teen, or an adult who wants numbers in writing, the FX125 covers more ground with one bike: two seat heights, a 265 lb rating and discs at both ends. The FX125 product page has the specs for both builds, and the FRP dirt bike lineup shows where the FX40 and FX140 sit.

What do FRP FX125 owners say?

The FX125 product page shows 5 reviews with a 4.4 average. Two of them:

  • Britney H., verified buyer, 5 stars, September 12, 2026: “My 12 year old is loving this bike. Took no time for him to get the hang of the clutch and shifter. Very happy with my purchase!”
  • Alessandro S., reviewer, 5 stars, August 10, 2026: “Supper fun will deffenetly be buying this one when i get the money”

The first review is the real-world answer to the manual-clutch question: a 12-year-old picked up the clutch and shifter quickly.

What did a rider who bought the FX125 report in his own videos?

Darzrt bought an FX125 17/14 and posted a TikTok series about it from June to August 2026, plus the first-look video above. Here is what he said, in his own words or close to them:

  • Unboxing: the bike came in a metal crate, with a bag holding a backpack, a water pack, goggles and gloves.
  • First start: he changed the engine oil (about 0.6 quart), fueled it, and started it with the key and the electric start button. He pointed out the digital dash.
  • Fit: at about 6 ft and 200 lb he said he was comfortable on it and called the frame beefy.
  • Speed: on a later ride with a friend, including hill climbing, he said it did 52 mph with him on it at 195 lb. FRP lists about 56 mph.
  • Using it: he entered the bike in a county fair pit bike race, changed the grips for it, and said he wanted to try the FX140 next.

As with any new bike, check the engine oil level before the first start and go over the bolts after assembly.
