TL;DR
- Coolster's 125cc dirt bikes are the M-125 (manual clutch, hydraulic disc front and rear, 30 mph claimed top speed) and the XR-125 (manual or semi-automatic clutch, hub front brake, hydraulic disc rear). Both are 124cc air-cooled four-strokes with kick start only.
- Coolster is a distributor (MAXTRADE LLC) and does not list a price, a rider weight limit, or a warranty term on either spec tab. The FRP FX125 publishes about 56 mph, a 265 lb rider load, a one-year warranty and a price of $799.99 to $1,099.99.
- The M-125 wins on weight, at about 203 lb gross against the FX125's 163.9 lb net, which is the opposite direction, so the FX125 is actually the lighter bike. The M-125 does claim a 30 mph top speed on its own product page, the only maker in this batch of reviews to publish one.
- Best for: a rider who specifically wants a semi-automatic clutch option (the XR-125) or Coolster's dealer network. Not right for: anyone who wants electric start, a published rider weight rating, or a price before shopping around.
Coolster is one of the most recognized names in budget-import dirt bikes, and its 125cc line splits into the manual-clutch M-125 and the manual-or-semi-automatic XR-125. This review covers what Coolster's own spec tabs say about each, what they leave out, and where the FRP Moto FX125 fits for the same rider.
Coolster distributes through dealers and its own parts store, and it does not list retail prices on the vehicle pages themselves.

Coolster figures from coolster.com's M-125 and XR-125 specification tabs, checked September 28, 2026. Coolster lists gross weight (G.W.), which is not directly comparable to FRP's net weight. FX125 figures from the FRP product page on the same date. Prices exclude tax and can change.
How fast do the Coolster M-125 and XR-125 go?
Coolster's own M-125 page states the bike "tops out at 30 mph," which is the only top-speed claim any maker in this review series has published on its own site. The XR-125 page makes no such claim.
30 mph is well under the FRP FX125's published figure of about 56 mph. The M-125 and XR-125 share the same 124cc engine and power figures, so the gearing and chain final drive, not the engine, are most of what separates a 30 mph claim from a 56 mph one.
What is the weight limit on a Coolster 125?
Coolster does not publish a rider weight limit for either model. The specification tabs give gross vehicle weight only: 203 lb for the M-125 and 163 lb for the XR-125. The FX125 lists a 265 lb maximum rider load, a figure Coolster does not provide for either bike.
Who should buy a Coolster 125?
A Coolster 125 is the right choice if:
- You want a semi-automatic clutch option. The XR-125 offers manual or semi-automatic; the FX125 is manual only.
- You want Coolster's dealer network and parts store for service.
- You are comfortable with a claimed 30 mph top speed on the M-125 rather than a faster trail bike.
- You are happy to kick-start the bike every time.
Who should NOT buy a Coolster 125?
A Coolster 125 is the wrong choice if:
- You want electric start. Both models list kick start only.
- You need a rider weight rating in writing. Coolster gives none for either model; the FX125's is 265 lb.
- You want to know the price before you shop. Neither vehicle page lists one.
- You want the faster of the two: the M-125's own claimed top speed is 30 mph, well under the FX125's 56 mph.
Coolster 125 vs FX125: the practical decision
Coolster's edge is the semi-automatic clutch option on the XR-125 and its dealer network. The FX125 answers with electric start, a published 265 lb rating, a one-year warranty and roughly double the M-125's own claimed top speed. For a rider who specifically wants a semi-automatic 125, the XR-125 makes sense. For a rider who wants the published numbers and more speed, the FX125 covers more ground.
What are the Coolster 125's real strengths?
- A semi-automatic option. The XR-125 can be ordered as semi-automatic, which the FX125 does not offer.
- Hydraulic disc brakes. Both models use a hydraulic rear disc, and the M-125 has hydraulic discs at both ends.
- A published top speed on the M-125. 30 mph, stated by Coolster itself.
- A parts store. Coolster sells its own listed parts for both models.
What are the Coolster 125's main weaknesses?
- Kick start only. Neither model lists electric start.
- No rider weight limit. Only gross vehicle weight is published.
- No price on the vehicle page. You compare dealer listings.
- A lower claimed top speed on the M-125. 30 mph against the FX125's roughly 56 mph.
Where does the FRP Moto FX125 give ground?
The FX125 has no semi-automatic option and no dealer network, and it is not sold in California. A rider who specifically wants to skip the clutch has no FX125 build that does that; the smaller FX40 is a different class of bike, not a semi-automatic 125.
Is a Coolster 125 the right buy?
What the Coolster 125s deliver is what Coolster lists: a 124cc four-stroke with a manual or semi-automatic clutch, disc brakes, and a claimed 30 mph top speed on the M-125, sold through dealers. What neither model delivers is electric start, a published rider weight limit, a price on the page, or a stated warranty term.
For a rider who wants a semi-automatic clutch and a dealer nearby, the XR-125 is a sound choice. For a rider who wants a published weight rating, electric start and more speed, the FX125 covers more ground. The FX125 product page has the specs for both builds, and the FRP dirt bike lineup shows the whole range.
What do FRP FX125 owners say?
The FX125 product page shows 5 reviews with a 4.4 average. Two of them:
- Britney H., verified buyer, 5 stars, September 12, 2026: “My 12 year old is loving this bike. Took no time for him to get the hang of the clutch and shifter. Very happy with my purchase!”
- Alessandro S., reviewer, 5 stars, August 10, 2026: “Supper fun will deffenetly be buying this one when i get the money”
The first review is the real-world answer to the manual-clutch question: a 12-year-old picked up the clutch and shifter quickly.
Reviews quoted as posted on the FRP FX125 product page, checked September 28, 2026.
What did a rider who bought the FX125 report in his own videos?
Darzrt bought an FX125 17/14 and posted a TikTok series about it from June to August 2026, plus the first-look video above. Here is what he said, in his own words or close to them:
- Unboxing: the bike came in a metal crate, with a bag holding a backpack, a water pack, goggles and gloves.
- First start: he changed the engine oil (about 0.6 quart), fueled it, and started it with the key and the electric start button. He pointed out the digital dash.
- Fit: at about 6 ft and 200 lb he said he was comfortable on it and called the frame beefy.
- Speed: on a later ride with a friend, including hill climbing, he said it did 52 mph with him on it at 195 lb. FRP lists about 56 mph.
- Using it: he entered the bike in a county fair pit bike race, changed the grips for it, and said he wanted to try the FX140 next.
As with any new bike, check the engine oil level before the first start and go over the bolts after assembly.
