Questions, answered
Mini bikes, explained.
How fast does a gas mini bike go?

The mini bike top speed by engine size varies by model. The 99cc GMB100 reaches 24 mph, while the GMB100P reaches 28 mph; the utility GMB100U is tuned for torque at 24 mph; and the 40cc kids' MB40 is geared to a controlled 18 mph. Drop a Predator 212 into the GMB100 frame and you go well beyond stock. Real top speed varies with rider weight and terrain.

Can an adult ride a mini bike? What's the weight limit?

Yes — use the adult mini bike size and weight guide to check rider fit. The 99cc GMB100 and GMB100P are rated to carry adults up to 220 lb, and the GMB100U to 185 lb. If you're heavier than that or want more power, start with the GMB100 frame and build up to a 212cc for a bike sized to a bigger adult.

Are gas mini bikes street legal? Where can I ride one?

No — every FRP mini bike is EPA-certified for off-road use only, not street legal or registered for public roads. Check where to legally ride a mini bike, including permitted private property, trails, campgrounds, and off-road parks. (FRP mini bikes are not sold in California.)

How old do you have to be to ride a mini bike?

The mini bike age and rider-size guide explains why size and confidence matter as much as age. The 40cc MB40 is built for kids ages 6 and up at a controlled 18 mph with adult supervision. The 99cc GMB100, GMB100P and GMB100U are sized and powered for teens and adults.

Do you need a license for a mini bike?

No license is required to ride an FRP mini bike, because they're for off-road private-property use, not public roads. Always check your local rules before riding somewhere new.

Can I put a Predator 212 engine on an FRP mini bike?

Yes — the GMB100 Predator 212 upgrade roadmap explains the build path. The GMB100, GMB100P and the standalone GMB100 frame accept a Predator 212cc engine as a direct fit with no welding on the frame. The utility GMB100U is the exception — its vintage frame isn't optimized for the 212 swap, so start with the GMB100 or the frame if a build is the goal.

Do FRP mini bikes come assembled?

The complete bikes arrive 85% pre-assembled — usually just the handlebars, front fork, front wheel and fender, finished in under an hour with basic tools. The 40cc MB40 is riding in about 20 minutes. The GMB100 frame is the exception, sold bare for custom builds.

Gas or electric mini bike — which is better?

Gas means you refuel in seconds and keep riding instead of waiting on a charge — the GMB100 gets about 27 miles per tank, the GMB100P about 30. That's the FRP focus: real gas mini bikes built to last as long as the riding day does.

What's the difference between a mini bike and a dirt bike?

A gas mini bike has a low frame and small wheels, made for backyards, driveways and flat trails — easy to handle and easy to start on. The mini bike vs dirt bike comparison explains why dirt bikes use long-travel suspension and bigger wheels for jumps and rough trails. If you've outgrown a mini bike, see the FRP dirt bike collection.

Why riders pick FRP.

Holds a real adult

The question buyers ask most is whether a mini bike can actually carry them. The 99cc GMB100 and GMB100P are rated to 220 lb; the GMB100 reaches 24 mph and the GMB100P reaches 28 mph. Both are built for grown teens and adults and rated 4.8/5 by 400+ riders.

Gas means no waiting

No battery, no charge time. Splash in gas and keep going — about 27–30 miles per tank, with the torque and runtime an electric mini bike can't match on a long afternoon.

A platform, not a dead end

Start on a 40cc, move up to a 99cc, then bolt a Predator 212 into the frame when you want to build. FRP mini bikes are made to grow with the rider — and take the upgrades.
